I told our church on Sunday that we are living in dark times like never before and in order to discern the error of the day, we must first know truth. One cannot recognize error unless he first knows the truth. There is an absolute truth that we have been given and it is called the Word of God. That truth was later embodied into a living person, Jesus Christ who proclaimed “I am the way, the truth and the life” (See John 1:1-5, 14:6) and that Word is revealed to us through Holy Spirit, Who indwells us and leads us into all truth. (See John 14:17).
Unfortunately many today are not discerning the errors that are being promoted by media, government, schools and even churches because they do not know the Truth. They have no foundation of truth to discern error so they follow what seems right in their own minds.
God’s word is truth. (John 17:17) This is why the enemy has attacked churches, and according to Barna research only a low percentage of pastors and teachers believe the Word of God is truth and have a Biblical World View. These same stats show only 4% of professing Christians in our nation possess a Biblical Worldview and as a result, so many people are interpreting life through error and making decisions based on a false foundation of perceived truth. So we have laws passed, sermons preached, and classes taught that are based on error. And, we see the results. Eventually that foundation will crack unless we speak the truth boldly and say no to the indoctrination of error.
Jesus gives a warning of how serious it is when what we perceive to be truth is actually darkness or error. (Matthew 6:23 (NLT): But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!)
So how do we discern truth? First it begins with a relationship with truth, Jesus Christ. Then the Spirit of truth will fill us with a discernment as we study and apply the written Word of God. I have been told by Holy Spirit that we must devour the Word of God in this day because of the level of darkness coming. There are many voices that seem to be saying right things, but within the message is a mixture of darkness. We must discern this deception in today’s world.
Jesus made life so simple when He said, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32.
Free from error! Free from darkness! Free from deception! God’s Word is Truth!
