A Way That Seems Right But…

Morning Thought April 15, 2022

A familiar Scripture on my mind this morning

…Proverbs 16:25 (ESV): There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

How true this is

There is a way that seems right to our schools. A way of biased curricula, masking our students and disrespect of parental rights but the end has been dramatic increases in mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation and substance addictions. We were told this week that a local county had seen a 300% increase in school expulsion this year. The way seemed right but the end is death.

There is a way that seems right to our government. A way of mandatory operating restrictions for churches and businesses, required vaccinations, opening borders to any and all, closing off oil supplies, raising taxes, and heavy government control. But the end has been closed and bankrupt churches and businesses, supply issues, gas prices doubling, inflation at a 4-decade high and rising, and a state of fear in the minds of many. The way seemed right but the end is death.

There is a way that seems right to many churches. A way of Christianity without a cross, promoting a blessed life with little accountability and as a badge of God’s favor, titles that afford special privileges and a system that has produced no power. We see churches, ministries and prominent leaders falling from their self-made pedestals. And we ask “Where is the God of Elijah?” He has gone nowhere except out of dead and powerless religion. The way of man seemed right but it was devoid of the life of God.

There is a way to the natural, carnal and self-filled mind that seems right. But what is not seen is the death that will follow.

The most foolish and deadly idea a person, church, business or government can have is that there is no absolute truth ruling our lives. When we have no divine boundaries in place, we do what seems right and beneficial for the moment. We have only to look at the condition of most nations and people in the world to see the results of such deception.

Proverbs 12:28 (ESV): In the path of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there is no death.

Matthew 7:13–14 (ESV): Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Deuteronomy 28:1–2 (ESV): And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you ….
