Hearing God’s Voice in 2022

As we move into 2022, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of hearing the voice of God. It is not that hearing His voice has not been important in the past, but as in Joshua 3, we are crossing over into territory we have never been to before and we must follow the Presence of God in all that we do. The Israelites were warned to “follow the ark” because they had never been this way before. (Joshua 3:3)

I believe in 2022 the Ekklesia of Jesus is also entering into new, unchartered “spiritual territories and dimensions” that we have never been in before. And, just as the children of Israel, we must also follow His Presence. How do we do this? We do this by hearing His voice.

I was in prayer recently and the Lord reminded me of an old radio station that I listened to growing up. That radio station is still broadcasting today, but I don’t listen to it. Why? Because I have not tuned into its frequency. All I need to do to get their broadcast today is turn on a radio and tune to the station’s frequency. Everything that is being broadcast over that radio would then be available for me to hear. If I don’t tune in, information is still being broadcast, but I cannot hear it. I have no knowledge of what is being said. Only those tuned to the frequency can hear the broadcast.

The same is true with God. His Presence is made visible by His voice. Psalm 19:1–4 (NLT) — 1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. 2 Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. 3 They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. 4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. Just as God’s creation proclaims His wonders, many never see nor hear because they are not “tuned in” to His frequency.

God speaks to us and those who belong to Him, hear His voice. John 10:27 The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me.

Hearing is intentional. We must first decide to tune into God and we must find the frequency that He is broadcasting from. That frequency is His Word broadcasted to us by His Spirit. When we tune into His Word, we begin to hear His voice. Just as we intentionally make a decision to either tune into a radio station’s frequency or to not tune in to its frequency, we also intentionally choose to either tune in or tune out the voice of God. We tune in by being still in His Presence and allowing Holy Spirit to “broadcast” the voice of God to us. We must get on the right frequency, His Word, or we may hear cross interference from other “broadcasts” being released.

A problem with many radio broadcasts is static. Static can be caused from atmospheric noise, such as lightning or static can come from manmade noise such as other devices that are picked up by the radio’s antenna. Our spiritual broadcast can suffer this same static. The enemy is constantly attempting to throw atmospheric noise at us, such as fear, doubt, unbelief, regrets, guilt, etc. These interfere with our hearing the voice of the Lord. We may also bring in our own devices such as life’s distractions that steal away our time from being still in His Presence and hearing what the Spirit is saying to us.

As we begin to move into 2022, let’s make a decision to hear the voice of God. He is speaking! He is broadcasting! Let’s tune in to His frequency and hear what the Spirit is saying to His Church!
