Fast2012: Day 12

Day 12: Truth Prevails

John 17:17
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

It was late June, 1997 and I sat on an airplane in Mexico City awaiting take off. As I looked out of the side window, I heard very strongly in my spirit, “My Word is Truth”. It was spoken so emphatically that I said “Lord, I know Your Word is truth, why are You telling me this?” The next day, I was in a hospital having a breast biopsy for what the doctor thought was nothing more than tissue changes common to women my age and especially since recent mammography tests did not reveal anything unusual. However, two days later, I was told the biopsy revealed a large malignant tumor. When I heard the word “cancer”, my first thought was the Word the Lord had spoken to me on that airplane three days earlier, “My Word is Truth!” And, recalling that Word quieted my heart and assured me that everything was going to be ok.

There are two Greek words used in Scripture to describe the Word of God. The first is logos and this word means the entire written Word of God. From Genesis to Revelation, we have logos. However, there is another important word that is used and that word is Rhema. The rhema Word is the spoken Word of God that is lifted from the pages of logos and implanted into our hearts by the Holy Spirit at specific times. The rhema Word will bring hope in difficult times because He is reminding us of His faithfulness to His written Word. The rhema Word of God will bring peace to our heart if we have ears to hear what He is saying to us. I cannot tell of the numerous times the Lord has given to me His rhema Word during times of unrest and discouragement and how these Words have quieted my heart time after time.

Each day we need to embrace the Word of God because God’s Word is truth and His Word must be implanted in our hearts. As we move into day 12 of our fast, why not ask the Lord to reveal to you His Word for the days ahead. Ask Him to give you ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to you. He delights in our knowing His truth!

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
